Drainage Systems
Drainage systems provide control for both surface and subsurface drainage. Proper drainage control can be one of the best and most cost effective ways for an owner to protect their property.
By diverting, collecting, and controlling the discharge of surface water flow (commonly caused by rain), erosion around foundations or yard improvements can be prevented.
In addition, proper site water management can minimize the damage caused by erosion and expansive soil as well as minimize or eliminate moisture intrusion into a household. Proper surface drainage can be achieved through site grading and the installation of area drains.
Adverse subsurface drainage conditions affect below-ground surface living, storage, and crawl spaces. These conditions are commonly found on hillside homes or buildings with basements. Water flow into this spaces can cause rot, mildew/mold, or result in ponding water.
Terra Firma commonly uses French Drains, below-slab drainage galleries, and waterproofing membranes to collect and prevent subsurface water from entering livable spaces. Although gravity-flow discharge piping is used whenever possible, sometimes the use of sumps and sump pumps is required.
